There are THREE
questions you may want answered before we go any further - so here goes!
1.
WHO am I?
I am a long-time railway
(occasionally railroad) modeller. I have modelled in most of the common
scales. My main interest is in ACCURATELY modelling architecture. Two
reasons - I like buildings, and they don't have to move! I have built
and exhibited layouts, and invariably the buildings were cause for
comment. Probably the greatest accolade was to be accepted as a member
of the 'Pendon Museum' village modelling group. I am also an
archaeologist. My main interest is in nautical (wet) archaeology, but
I'm also interested in 'built environment' (the buildings!). I am NOT a
'double glazing' salesman! If you would like to see a bit more about my
character and life, see our personal
Barefoot
website.
2.
WHAT is the purpose
of this web site?
To encourage
builders of model architecture to enjoy their creations - in particular
to create windows worthy of the rest of the model! Far too often, a
well-constructed and detailed model is spoiled by windows that consist
of nothing more than a few paint-filled lines on a piece of glazing
material. Thirty, forty years ago, this was acceptable - but so were
locos with infilled spokes and drainpipes for handrails! IT'S
TIME FOR A CHANGE!
It is also
designed to encourage modellers to join their local and national clubs &
societies. Individual orders will gladly be dealt-with. However,
orders placed through your Society/Club will attract a donation at the
end of the Financial Year to that Society. The donation will be
10% of the value of orders submitted
through the year.
3.
WHY???
I have been
modelling for more years than I care to admit, and have gained
tremendous enjoyment, knowledge and satisfaction from membership of
various organisations - the 'E.M.G.S', 'N Gauge Society', Crawley MRS
to name but a few. So it's payback time -and hopefully it will
encourage you (if not already a member) to go out and join a club. It
does, of course, make good business sense as well!
4.
WHERE can you find
more information?
On this web site
for starters. The button links at the top will take you to a variety of
pages.
There's a
glossary of terms used to describe fenestration - the product
pages use these terms to describe the various prototypes.
The 'product'
pages are illustrated with the relevant prototype, and formatted in
'Acrobat' 'pdf' format to make them easy to download. There is a link
to 'Acrobat's home page to download the (free) reader if you do not
already have one. Most of the types are modelled on existing
prototypes. Where these buildings are in public ownership (preserved
railways, public buildings etc) the provenance (location) will be
shown. No private residence will be identified. Also in the pages are
details regarding ordering and payment methods.
The 'Hints
and Tips' page will hopefully enable you to make more out of the
product, and develops the information shown on the individual
instruction sheets by including photographs.
The
'contact' page provides you with an opportunity to raise
queries, request new prototypes and complete a 'Feedback Form'.
The 'Links'
page - well it does what it says on the tin...! Here you will find some
of those organisations I mentioned earlier - and if you want a link
added, let me know the 'URL'. However, there are also links to other
useful sites, such as 'Images of England' - the 'English Heritage'
site devoted to our listed buildings, and 'Staffs Past' - a
superb resource, particularly if you are interested in railways,
waterways and BEER! (No prizes for
guessing that my new layout is based on a brewery with a waterway
connection).
So enter the rest
of the site through whichever shaped window you want (ah, come back
'Zippy' & 'Bungle', all is forgiven)! |
